What Is the eBay API?

The eBay API covers three core capabilities: product search, product detail retrieval, and sold/completed listings. The search endpoint accepts keywords or category IDs and supports filters for buying format (Auction, Buy It Now, Accepts Offers), item condition, price range, location, and eBay domain - covering all major international eBay sites. Search results return title, price (single value or current bid), condition, shipping cost, return policy, seller username with feedback score and positive feedback percentage, watcher count, quantity sold, and thumbnail images.

The product detail endpoint retrieves full item data by item ID or URL, returning structured item specifics - brand, model, storage capacity, color, connectivity, and other category-relevant attributes - alongside the complete image gallery, condition description, all shipping service options, and product ratings where available. A sold listings filter on the search endpoint exposes completed transactions with final sale prices, grounding market value research in actual transaction data. Together these endpoints support price comparison engines, arbitrage and reseller sourcing tools, auction monitoring systems, appraisal platforms that use eBay sold prices to establish item values, and seller intelligence dashboards.

Use Cases

What you can build with real-time eBay data

Product Search

Search eBay listings by keyword, category ID, or eBay domain with filters for buying format (Auction, Buy It Now, Accepts Offers), item condition, price range, and location. Results include titles, prices, shipping costs, return policies, watcher counts, and quantity sold.

Product Detail Extraction

Retrieve full item data by item ID or URL - including structured item specifics like brand, model, storage, color, and connectivity - alongside the complete image gallery, condition description, and all available shipping service options.

Review & Rating Analysis

Pull product ratings and review data at the item level to track quality signals across categories. Useful for comparison engines, buyer guides, and market research tools that need to surface top-rated items within a search.

Auction Monitoring

Track live auction listings with current bid price, watcher count, and item condition in real time. Build alert systems that notify users when watched items are approaching close or have been outbid.

Seller Intelligence

Retrieve seller usernames, total feedback count, and positive feedback percentage to score seller reliability or monitor competitor storefronts. Useful for marketplace trust tools and vendor vetting workflows.

Sold Price Research

Filter by completed and sold listings to get final transaction prices for any item - grounded in actual sales, not asking prices. Used by appraisal tools, insurance platforms, and dynamic pricing engines to establish real market value.
